Hope Changes Disappointment.
God is present in the midst of struggle. Learn more about the hope that changes disappointment through video stories and scripture below.
The thought of my pain,
my homelessness, is bitter poison.
I think of it constantly, and my spirit is depressed.
Yet hope returns when I remember this one thing:
The Lord's unfailing love and mercy still continue,
Fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise.
The danger of death was around me,
and the grave set its trap for me.
In my trouble I called to the Lord;
I called to my God for help.
In his temple he heard my voice;
he listened to my cry for help.
In my distress, O Lord, I called to you, and you answered me.
From deep in the world of the dead I cried for help, and you heard me.
But you, O Lord my God, brought me back from the depths alive.
When I felt my life slipping away, then, O Lord, I prayed to you,
and in your holy Temple you heard me.
Our High Priest is not one who cannot feel sympathy for our weaknesses. Let us have confidence, then, and approach God's throne, where there is grace. There we will receive mercy and find grace to help us just when we need it.
We do not know how we ought to pray; the
Spirit himself pleads with God for us ingroans that words cannot express. And God,
who sees into our hearts, knows what thethought of the Spirit is; because the Spirit
pleads with God on behalf of his people andin accordance with his will.
Praise him, you servants of the Lord!
He does not neglect the poor
or ignore their suffering;
he does not turn away from them,
but answers when they call for help.
God is our shelter and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not be afraid, even if the earth is shaken
and mountains fall into the ocean depths;
The Lord Almighty is with us.
I waited patiently for the Lord's help;
then he listened to me and heard my cry.
He pulled me out of a dangerous pit,
out of the deadly quicksand.
O God, you are my God, and I long for you.
As I lie in bed, I remember you;
all night long I think of you,
because you have always been my help.
In the shadow of your wings I sing for joy.
I cling to you, and your hand keeps me safe.
Do not abandon me, O Lord;
do not stay away, my God!
Help me now, O Lord my savior!
Insults have broken my heart, and I am in despair.
I had hoped for sympathy, but there was none;
for comfort, but I found none.
Listen to my words, O Lord,
and hear my sighs.
Listen to my cry for help,
my God and king!
I pray to you, O Lord;
you hear my voice in the morning;
at sunrise I offer my prayer
and wait for your answer.
For only a penny you can buy two sparrows, yet not one sparrow falls to the ground without your Father's consent. As for you, even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth much more than many sparrows!
Don't you know? Haven't you heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God;
he created all the world.
He never grows tired or weary.
No one understands his thoughts.
He strengthens those who are weak and tired.
Even those who are young grow weak;
young people can fall exhausted.
But those who trust in the Lord for help
will find their strength renewed.
They will rise on wings like eagles;
they will run and not get weary;
they will walk and not grow weak.
I am like an olive tree growing in the house of God;
I trust in his constant love forever and ever.
I alone know the plans I have for you,
plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster,
plans to bring about the future you hope for.
We also boast of our troubles, because we know that trouble produces endurance, endurance brings God's approval, and his approval creates hope. This hope does not disappoint us, for God has poured out his love into our hearts by means of the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to us.
The Lord your God is with you;
his power gives you victory.
The Lord will take delight in you,
and in his love he will give you new life.
He will sing and be joyful over you.
